Safety is a top priority for us at Deca South Africa, especially when it comes to our athletes. We have taken meticulous care to ensure that every aspect of our event prioritizes safety.
The swimming and running segments are entirely within the grounds of the resort, guaranteeing 100% safety.
The cycling route follows an out-and-back path totalling 6km, with 3km each way. Importantly, 1.9km of this route is within the resort grounds. For the section on the public road, we are working to secure closure. While this road is public, there is an alternative route for accessing and exiting the small village of Gariep. Notably, there are no informal settlements along the route, and it skirts the town borders, flanked by mountainous terrain on one side and the resort on the other, minimizing pedestrian presence.
To ensure further safety, marshals will be stationed at the junction onto the public road and at the turnaround point for the entire duration of the cycling events. This presence will manage traffic and prevent any pedestrian access to the route. I personally cycled these roads and can attest to their safety: the road has ample shoulder space, minimal traffic due to its non-National Road status, and importantly, I encountered no pedestrians throughout.
In selecting Gariep Forever Resort as our venue, safety was paramount in our decision-making process. The resort offers both a secure environment and stunning surroundings.
Rest assured, we are implementing comprehensive measures to safeguard all athletes throughout the event.
